Skip Truex, Director of Buildings and Grounds for District 118 in Danville, Ill., needed a heating, cooling and ventilation solution to replace the outdated and inefficient steam systems in several Danville schools. His primary goal was to ensure a comfortable, safe, and healthy environment for students and staff. Reliable performance, quiet operation and superior Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) topped his list of priorities. Truex’s motto is “keep it simple.” He wanted to avoid extensive ductwork and filters that would need to be maintained and could distribute contaminants through the system. Good stewardship of taxpayers’ dollars also meant finding a cost-effective, long-lasting and financially beneficial solution. Drawing upon over 30 years of experience in the commercial industrial HVAC business, Truex was interested in individual units that could provide hot water, heat, air conditioning and superior air quality in each classroom.
The highly efficient ClassMate® cooling and heat pump by Airedale checked all Truex’s boxes. Designed to bring comfort to individual classrooms, ClassMate® units are simple to maintain, operate and repair. They’re engineered for energy efficiency and noise reduction and occupy a small footprint. In fact, it is the quietest single-packaged product of its kind on the market today.
The individual control of each classroom is a huge advantage. In addition to the comfort and efficiencies it enables, Truex explains, “If we have a problem, we can quickly fix it without losing an entire wing.” Truex says the units have also delivered “considerable” savings compared to the previous system.
“Everybody I have encountered at Modine is professional, focused and incredibly supportive,” Truex says, adding that the top-notch service techs who handled the installs were personable and knowledgeable.
“The Modine partnership gives me a sense of security,” Truex says. “The company has high-quality, proven products with a track record of long-term success. I’m confident in the units and expect great things wherever they are installed.
